Swedish Massage: This is the most common massage type where therapists use long, smooth strokes combined with kneading and circular movements on the superficial layers of muscle using lotion or oil. If you’ve never had a massage before, this is the one to try!
Deep Tissue Medical Massage: Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Your massage therapist will use slower strokes and friction techniques across the grain of the muscle. This form is typically used for chronic pain patterns, repetitive strain, postural problems and recovery from an injury. Common modalities included in this massage are Neuromuscular Therapy (trigger point) and Myofascial Release followed by gentle stretching of the area treated.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (or MLD): Lymphatic drainage is another therapeutic form of massage. Contrary to the deep tissue massage modalities, this type of body work uses very light pressure with specific gentle, rhythmic strokes that stimulate the Lymphatic System which allows for quicker cellular detoxification. It is most widely used in health conditions that require assistance in draining excess fluid build up, water retention, surgical recovery, and even recovering from a recent cold or allergy condition. Lymphatic drainage is all about the flushing of your system, so it’s ultra important to drink lots of water afterwards! For more information on this specific modality check out our more detailed blog post.
Pregnancy (or Prenatal) Massage: From an experience massage therapist at HPJ can help support a healthy pregnancy, labor and delivery. This nurturing massage focuses on the special needs of mothers-to-be that can increase circulation, reduce stress, lessen water retention, relieve aches and pains, and reduce anxiety and depression. Like all of our treatments, this massage is also customized for each individual patient where this one concentrates mostly on the lower back, hips, shoulders, legs and feet. The therapists that provide this therapy in our clinic have special certifications in prenatal massage to best provide the safest and highest quality of care. They are also trained to provide proper positioning to ensure highest level of comfort and support using customized support pregnancy cushions that further allows our prenatal mamas to fully relax while laying face down without worry of injury. Mother and baby share the benefits as stress and tension melts away leaving you feeling relaxed, balanced and refreshed at the end.
Sports Massage: This massage technique is designed specifically for those who are involved in physical activity; although you don’t necessarily have to be a professional athlete to benefit. The focus here isn’t just on relaxation, but on preventing and treating injuries while enhancing physical performance. Deep tissue techniques along with trigger point therapy and myofascial release to specific injured areas allow for quicker recovery getting you back to the sport you love faster.
Thai Yoga: Our therapists STRETCH YOU during this session by using a combination of compression, gentle pressure and yoga-like stretches on the body to relax the body on a whole deeper level reducing stress and improving overall circulation. You can read more on this unique relaxation technique here.
Thai Foot Massage: This form of therapy is a specific technique to the feet and legs primarily. Thai foot massage is deeply relaxing and incorporates stretching with acupressure to stimulate specific reflex points. It has elements of Shiatsu, Reflexology and Chinese massage incorporated into each treatment. Our therapist also uses an individualized essential oil blend per client leaving you feeling fully relaxed, pain-free and wondering just where it has been all your life.
Reflexology: Reflexology is the application of appropriate pressure to specific points and areas on the feet, hands, or ears in order to “activate” or treat the corresponding body part. This is a deeply relaxing treatment with benefits that can be felt throughout the body. Experience our relaxing and therapeutic treatment which concentrates on pressure points with various massage techniques to the feet. Reflexology helps to balance and detoxify, which can help alleviate tension in the body, relieve headaches, sinus congestion and most stress related conditions. Specifically designed to enhance total body wellness and general health. *Not recommended for pregnant women UNLESS by a certified reflexologist like ours.
Reiki: Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is a “hands off”or laying of hands approach that addresses physical, emotional, mental and spiritual imbalances. Many people find Reiki treatments to be deeply soothing and relaxing. This can be added to other massage therapies, or as it’s own therapy in 30 or 60 minute sessions.
