RE: Julee Miller—My Acupuncture and Muscular Therapist 2007-2008
In mid-2007 I was in the second semester of a university program preparing to begin a second career after 36 years in the oil industry. I was carrying bags with textbooks and notebooks for blocks as I walked from parking lots to classrooms to libraries. All of a sudden, I found reach in my right arm 90% gone. I couldn’t reach to open the car glove box, reach to operate the radio dials, unlock the right car door, or perform many of the most routine operations in a day. The most excruciating pain that would literally make me scream was rolling over in my sleep or stretching as I awoke.
I sought Julee’s advice after one of our running club’s runs, and she recommended I call her office for an appointment. I began seeing her for muscular work after she diagnosed it as a rotator cuff injury, and I confirmed this with my M.D. This left me two options for recovery, surgery or therapy. I chose therapy and Julee as my primary recovery coordinator. The therapy sessions and prescribed exercises to perform on my own were effective and I began to feel the improvement very soon. She recommended that I try the acupuncture therapy early on since the deep tissue massage was very painful due to the severity of the muscle condition resulting from delaying initial therapy for months.
Her precise skill and understanding of the entire neuromuscular system and how an injury in one part can be helped by stimulation in other seemingly unrelated limbs was amazing. Within 3 months of the start of therapy, I was 80% recovered. As a runner, I encountered other muscle strains and shin splints for which I sought Julee’s help. I ran 2 half marathons while seeing Julee, and I am a firm believer that alternative medicine practiced by professionals like Julee can be the best answer for certain injuries, or at least a non-invasive option.
I had never experienced acupuncture, and Julee’s bedside manner, her soft touch, and reassuring words were perfect for easing my apprehension. My recovery continued after she left Houston with the help of student peers recommended by her, and I am one appreciative and healthy 60 year old customer.
