What is Acupuncture?
Very basically, Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles on the body’s surface, in order to influence and improve the functioning of the body. The purpose of these needles is to stimulate specific acupuncture points to promote self healing. In some cases, acupuncture may be accompanied by electrical stimulation, cupping, massage, or the use of moxibustion (a form of heat therapy).
The modern scientific explanation is that needling the acupuncture points stimulates the nervous system to release chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These chemicals will either change the experience of pain, or they will trigger the release of other chemicals and hormones which influence the body’s own internal regulating system. This very intricate physiological response helps you heal faster and feel better quicker!
Is Acupuncture Safe?
Acupuncture is extremely safe, minimally invasive, and essentially free of side effects. Our clinic uses sterile, disposable needles that are discarded after each use and our practitioners have extensive training with decades of experience.
What should I expect during treatment?
Most people enjoy acupuncture and find it very relaxing. Often people are surprised at how comfortable they become during a treatment. So much so that they may even fall asleep! Acupuncture needles are made of extremely thin, solid, flexible, surgical stainless steel. The insertion of the acupuncture needle is usually painless. Occasionally a slight sensation may be felt upon entry, but once the needles are in place patients are note even aware of them and float off into and immediate deep state of relaxation for the duration of the treatment.
Does my insurance cover acupuncture?
With each passing year more insurance company policies are providing acupuncture coverage. To make this process easier on you our staff will bill your insurance company directly if your insurance plan provides this benefit. To find out if your policy offers this coverage complete our Insurance Verification Form and submit. Once received, our billing specialists will then verify your coverage and contact you to schedule your appointment.
How many treatments will I need?
This is simply depends on what condition is being treated and can very slightly from patient to patient. For most chronic conditions, 5-7 treatments scheduled one to two times per week tends to offer the best outcome. Some people notice an immediate improvement in their health while for others acupuncture tends to have a cumulative effect over several visits.
